THE FESTIVAL HISTORY

The San Antonio Jewish Film Festival was conceived in 2001 by Mel Pomerantz, whose enduring effort brought this Film Festival to life.  Our mission is to promote Jewish values and diversity among the Jewish people through the medium of film.  We aim to entertain, educate, and raise community awareness of Jewish identity, history, and culture.

The Jewish Film Festival is held annually in February.  It has been held at the Barshop Jewish Community Center in the Holzman Auditorium, the Santikos Bijou Cinema Bistro, and the Santikos Embassy 14.  Films have included Nora's Will, Anita, Tijuana Jews, Sixty-Six, 51 Birch Street, among many others.

Some of our guest speakers at past Film Festivals have included local Holocaust educator Maxine Cohen, Gaylen Ross, director of the film Killing Kasztner, local author, professor, and Film Festival committee member Steven G. Kellman, PhD, filmmaker Emily Kunstler, and numerous others.

THE SEQUEL

In addition to the Jewish Film Festival held annually in February, the JCC now features extra film screenings throughout the year. This series of Jewish films, aptly called "The Sequel", offers the community the opportunity to enjoy cinema outside of the Jewish Film Festival.

Films previously seen at The Sequel event include:
