Barshop JCC Jewish Film Festival
The Barshop JCC Jewish Film Festival promotes Jewish values and diversity through the medium of film, striving to entertain, educate, and raise community awareness of Jewish identity, history, and culture.
Held annually, typically in February, the Jewish Film Festival was conceived in 2001 by Mel Pomerantz, whose persistent efforts brought it to life. Films are selected through an arduous process that includes identifying, researching, and screening over eighty films to select the best to present to our community. We thank our loyal patrons for returning to the Festival year-after-year.

|The Festival has been held at a number of locations, including the Barshop Jewish Community Center in the Holzman Auditorium, the Santikos Bijou Cinema Bistro, and our current home, the Santikos Embassy 14 (shown above at the 2014 Festival).
Some of our guest speakers at past Film Festivals have included local Holocaust educator Maxine Cohen, Gaylen Ross, director of the film Killing Kasztner, local author, UTSA professor, and Film Festival committee member Steven G. Kellman, Ph.D., TAMUSA professor, author, and Distinguished Scholar in Residence at the San Antonio Holocaust Memorial Museum Dr. Edward B. Westermann, filmmaker Emily Kunstler, Pilot Gino Narboni, and numerous others.
|In addition to the annual Jewish Film Festival, the JCC features extra film screenings throughout the year. This series of films, also selected by the Festival Committee, is aptly called "The Sequel," and offers the community the opportunity to enjoy cinema outside of the Film Festival. The JCC also hosts a number of Film Events throughout the year in conjunction with Jewish holidays, special celebrations, and more.|
