Senior Adults

Seniors at the J know how to have a good time! From enjoying the occasional therapy dog visit, to lunch with the Early Childhood kids, enjoying special guest speakers, playing a good ol' game of "mahj",  or watching exciting performances at the award-winning Sheldon Vexler Theatre, there is never a dull moment to be had.

Transportation Services 
The JCC provides transportation for members ages 65+ who live in the surrounding area to the JCC for daily programming and special events. To find out if your area of residence qualifies for JCC transportation, please call the Senior Center at 210-302-6860.

Seniors stay active with a variety of activities offered daily and weekly. 
Chef-Selected Fresh Lunch

Fit 4 Life 
Fit 4 Life is designed specifically for moderately active seniors, and focuses on strength, balance, flexibility, and endurance, and promotes independence in aging. Most exercises are performed while seated in a chair. This class is great for anyone going through rehab or in need of non-intense exercise.

Monday - Friday | 11:00 - 11:15 am

Game Room Activities 
Join other seniors for a day of friendly competition, including Mah Jongg and Bridge. Games that involve concentration, reasoning, problem-solving, memory, information processing, and/or focus will stimulate brain cells and keep neural pathways functioning. Borrow our games, or bring your own. Do you prefer to read, listen to music, or enjoy a cup of coffee? The Senior Center offers that as well!

JCC Book Club 
Get together with the baleboste for a monthly discussion of hot new titles, as well as your old favorites! See your Center Peace and Senior Moments newsletters for details about this month's book. There is no charge to join Book Club.

JCC Knitting Club
Join other members in the Senior Center to work on your current projects, try something new, or contribute to a group mitzvah project. All levels of knitting and crochet welcome.

Jewish Genealogical Society 
The Jewish Genealogical Society meets the third Sunday of every month, beginning again October 2015, to gain the knowledge and tools needed to explore their family histories. Call the Senior Center for information about membership.
Senior Celebration Club
Come join the best club in town! Previously the Yiddish Club, the Senior Celebration Club gets together once a month for an afternoon of visiting with friends, noshing, entertainment, and more. This club is open to all senior JCC members, and focuses on sharing memories, traditions, and most of all, celebrations!
Silver Cinema Film Screenings
The JCC, in conjunction with Golden Manor Jewish Senior Services, offers a fun bi-monthly film screening at which a new film with some sort of Jewish content is screened. Film screenings take place the first and third Thursday of each month at 1:00 pm. Call the Senior Center to find out what's on next!
Fall Classes 
Each semester, a selection of limited-time and single-meet classes are scheduled, offering a little variety to the everyday programs.
Crafting Culture 
Come join your friends for a morning of arts and crafts in the Senior Center! Each project will explore various aspects of Jewish culture through artistic mediums. This season, we will create works that celebrate Chanukah. Participation is free, but space is limited. RSVP by calling the Senior Center.

Senior Chefs 
Get ready to experience Jewish culture in a way everyone can appreciate - by making delectable snacks! Senior Chefs traverses the world of Jewish holidays and their respective foods. No baking experience needed, and participants will receive all necessary ingredients. Space is limited; reservations required by calling the Senior Center.

NEW! Hebrew Classes for Adults

Whether you are starting from the beginning or wanting to brush up on your Hebrew skills, join our NEW Hebrew classes at the J! Longtime teacher Orah Abramoff will teach students how to read at 7:00 pm and work on conversational skills at 8:00 pm.
