Your Story: Meet the Pecks

The PecksCathy “Cat” and Carl Peck joined the JCC in 2005, having just returned to San Antonio following Carl’s retirement from GUND, a toy company. They found their way to the JCC after a strong recommendation from Dr. Mel Baden, himself a former member AND the person from whom the Pecks purchased their home. “We did! Thanks Dr. Baden!”

Both Cathy and Carl have been involved in athletics their entire lives. Cathy played basketball and ran track, while Carl played in the Minnesota Twins organization. “It seems that we have been striving to stay in shape as long as we can remember. The JCC is just the current stage in our attempt to do so. Living close by allows us to work out almost every day, and eliminates the excuses for not showing up.”

Cathy, who never misses a day of getting her sweat on in group exercise classes, says “The variety of aerobic classes from HiiT, Step It Up, and BodyPump™ are great for me. I can usually find something in the morning or evening that fits into my schedule.” Her hard work and dedication shows!

Carl is often seen in the Hendin Fitness Center or swimming in the pool, followed by relaxing in the whirlpool after a hard workout.

In addition to fitness, the Pecks enjoy an array of other activities at the JCC, including award-winning productions at The Sheldon Vexler Theatre, attending the Main Event annual fundraiser, San Antonio Symphony performances, and their favorite – massages from the J’s own licensed massage therapist and certified personal trainer, Dee Dee Moore.

“The JCC staff is great! The environment also promotes lots of strong friendships that continue away from the J,” Cathy exclaims. “It’s like stepping into your own home… very familiar and comfortable. School kids, basketball and tennis players, swimmers, weight-lifters, senior citizens, and much more. Not your stereotypical gym.”

Cathy and Carl, we are glad You Belong Here®!
