Open Letter from Alissa Levey Baugh

AlissaApproaching retirement, I find myself reminiscing about the decades I’ve spent at the JCC. My earliest memories are of the Rampart location when it was on the edge of town. I swam there as a child, participated in BBYO, took driver’s education, and as a young adult, enjoyed Jazzercise. In 1989, I was offered the wonderful opportunity to become the Early Childhood Director.

What a journey these last 29 years have been, not only for myself, but my family as well! My children played sports and attended camps, and worked as camp counselors, lifeguards, and swim instructors. My husband coached youth teams and enjoyed shows at The Sheldon Vexler Theater. Both of my granddaughters have attended our early childhood program and participated in activities here.

I’ve engaged with children and families in an environment where childhood is a joyous and special time. In our program, children learn by exploring, discovering, and engaging in critical thinking in an environment where they’re respected and nurtured. I’ve helped so many families with the most rewarding and difficult job – parenting. I’ve been able to work with many wonderful, dedicated teachers, as well as other JCC professional staff.

I’m grateful to Mark Lit for hiring me, and to Saul Levenshus, who has not only helped and supported me throughout my tenure, but has grown the JCC and the early childhood program in myriad ways. The JCC will continue to be a special place for me as I embark on this new phase of my life.

I feel so fortunate that we were able to be a part of the ECD Program and enjoyed volunteering on the PAL Committee with you. You're a wonderful leader. Always accountable, responsible, and compassionate. I have no doubt you've prepared the program to continue to thrive after your retirement. Thank you for shaping our children and caring!

Alissa, thanks so much for your support and friendship over the last three years. Having K & K in your school has provided them a solid foundation for their future learning. Your leadership at the school has been outstanding!
