Your Story: Meet the Bernsteins

BernsteinsJonathan, Jessica, and their two daughters, Rachel and Miriam, have been JCC members since the very beginning of the 2000s. The Bernsteins moved from Oakland, CA when their children were little, and enrolled Miriam in the JCC preschool and Rachel in afterschool care. Having their daughters at the JCC brought a variety of activities for the whole family!!

Over the years, Rachel and Miriam have been enrolled in preschool, afterschool care, STARZ and Nova youth performance troupes, and Summer J-Camp. As she has now aged out of the STARZ and Nova programs, Miriam has enjoyed working with the young thespians in Nova, which is for students in grades 2 through 4.

Even though both Rachel and Miriam have grown up and aren’t very active JCC program participants, Jessica and Jon find time for themselves in the fitness center, group exercise classes, and on the basketball courts. Jessica particularly enjoys participating in Fit 4 Life, a group exercise class in which most exercises are performed while seated in a chair. The class is great for anyone going through rehab or in need of non-intensive exercise. As for Jonathan, he enjoys showing the “youngins” who’s boss on the basketball courts for pick-up games when he has free time on weekends.

“Physical fitness is important to us, and the JCC has helped us challenge ourselves and get in shape.” The Bernsteins rejoice that the J “just feels right [and] like home.” Fitness, of course, is not the only aspect of the J Jessica and Jon enjoy. Date nights often consist of attending performances at The Sheldon Vexler Theatre, now in its 19th season.

Jonathan, Jessica, Rachel, and Miriam, we are glad to be your home when you’re not home! We are glad you belong here®.
