Well, 2018 is rapidly approaching its final weeks and the holiday season is almost upon us. Pretty soon we will be in full celebration mode attending parties, planning holiday meals, and overindulging in ways that are not always good for us including eating and drinking.  This frequently means forsaking our regular routines such as exercise and sleeping patterns, sometimes at the expense of our health and well-being.

Well, since we know that most of us are likely to fall prey to this annual ritual on varying levels anyway, I’m going out on a limb to encourage the inevitable; and for those of you who haven’t already made plans to attend this year’s Main Event, on Saturday, November 17, to entice you and invite you to join 500 of your closest friends and family members at this year’s JCC Fundraiser, one of the best parties you’ll find anywhere in San Antonio.

I know this goes against all of our normal day-to-day efforts to encourage our members to pursue a healthy lifestyle through the development of regular fitness routines. You know… eat healthy, get plenty of sleep and workout. Well, every once in a while we should give ourselves a little treat, and this year’s Main Event, which is only 5 days shy of Thanksgiving and the beginning of that holiday madness I referred to earlier, is a great way to get started, especially since you don’t have to cook, bring a dish, or clean up afterward.

But here’s another way to look at it; with Thanksgiving coming so soon after our event, this is a great opportunity to join us to give thanks to this year’s worthy honorees, Tina and Brian Weiner and Mary and Gordon Weiner, along with our Corporate Honoree, The RK Group. Check out pages 2 and 5 of this issue to read all about our deserving honorees.

This year’s event will once again have great food and drink courtesy of Spoon Eatery, Maverick, Max & Louie’s New York Diner, True Flavors Catering, Tony G’s Soul Food, Fork and Garden Catering, Irene Ramirez Catering, and of course Myron’s Prime Steakhouse will once again be on hand to serve up delicious Martini’s and more.

We’re very excited to introduce our new fully digital silent auction which will allow patrons to shop directly from their smart phones or at one of several iPad stations set up to assist you in being part of the buying frenzy that will help support Children, Seniors, and Special Needs Services at the JCC in the year ahead.

Now, aren’t those all compelling reasons to get a head start on your holiday partying? And remember, we’ll be open for business the very next morning, the whole week leading up to Thanksgiving, as well as the day after Thanksgiving (join us for the annual Turkey Burn at 9am) and beyond for you to work off those partying pounds in between events.

Here’s to a safe, festive, and healthy holiday season.

We look forward to seeing you at the Main Event, on Saturday, November 17!
